Murray man accused of passing fraudulent checks

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -  A Murray man is accused of cashing fraudulent checks.

In May, McCracken County Sheriff’s Department detectives began investigating fraudulent checks being cashed at Easy Money Express in Paducah. 

Christopher James Walls, 24, of Murray went to Easy Money Express located on Park Avenue on May 7, 2013 and presented a check that was forged from Liberty Tax Service.

James Walls attempted to cash a second check May 8, 2013 at Easy Money Express on Alben Barkley Drive.

According to the sheriff's department, James Walls cashed fraudulent checks in Paducah, Mayfield, and Murray; all checks were over $4,800 each.

More than 100 checks were reported stolen from Liberty Tax Service in Detroit, Michigan.

Walls was arrested on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony.

Walls is being held in McCracken County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

1 injured after rollover crash on KY 464

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A passenger received minor injuries after rollover crash on KY 464, about 1 mile east of Mayfield on Wednesday.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Graves County Sheriff's Department says Cole Fields, 18, was driving westbound on KY 464 when his Pontiac Grand Prix dropped off the right shoulder of the road. Deputies say Fields over-corrected, which caused his vehicle to spin 180 degrees and then run off the right side of the road and down a steep embankment where it rolled over one complete time.

According to deputies, Fields was not injured. His passenger, William Orgeron, received minor injuries to his face and arm. they say he was treated at the scene and refused transport to a hospital.

GCMS names new assistant principal

GCMS names new assistant principal

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County Middle School has named Jonathan Miller as its new assistant principal, replacing Alison Gregory, who this spring was chosen as the new principal at Symsonia Elementary School.

Miller previously taught language arts at Graves County Middle School for four years and served on the District Instructional Leadership Team for two years. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree in middle school education at Brescia University in Owensboro, where he earned a baseball scholarship, from his playing days at Graves County High School. He is a 2001 graduate of GCHS. He earned a master’s degree in school administration and instructional leadership through a Bellarmine University cohort of Graves County educators. This past December, he completed Rank I certification through the University of the Cumberlands in instructional supervision.

2 arrested on drug charges in Fancy Farm

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Two from Fancy Farm were arrested on drug charges after deputies say they tried to avoid a highway safety checkpoint.

John Bell, 29, and Alicia Bell, 24, were charged with cultivating marijuana five plants or more first offense, trafficking in marijuana 8 oz. to <5 lbs first offense, wanton endangerment first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Alicia Bell was also charged with tampering with physical evidence after deputies say she tried to hide the marijuana while they were speaking with her husband outside in the driveway.

Graves County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested the couple, from Fancy Farm, after a late night search warrant was executed at their home located on State Rout 339 just North of Fancy Farm.

GCHS hires McCuiston as school’s new Lady Eagle soccer coach

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County High School Athletic Director Doug Gloyd has announced that Murray High School’s Head Girl’s Soccer Coach Mickey McCuiston will resume the same position with the Graves County Lady Eagle soccer program.

McCuiston will be hired as a teacher with the Project Lead The Way program. He has lead the Murray High Lady Tigers to three consecutive  Regional Championships over the past three years with his teams advancing to the Elite 8 two out of those 3 years.

Several girls from his teams have earned college scholarships.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with Mickey’s credentials," he said. "He has built a program at Murray to where everyone is trying to simulate. We are extremely excited to have him lead our program.”

Graves schools Summer Feeding Program weekday meals at high school, Symsonia

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Graves County School District is participating in the Summer Food Service Program.

Meals are provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. There is no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Breakfast is provided between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and lunch between 11 a.m. and noon weekdays at Graves County High School and Symsonia Elementary School.

The meals are offered through July 26, except for the first week of July.
