KSP collects 800 lbs of prescription drugs for national program

KSP collects 800 lbs of prescription drugs for national program

(KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police reports that the third National "Take Back" Initiative collected 804 pounds of prescription drugs from residents who discarded their unwanted medications.

The KSP says each of their 16 post locations collected the drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this past Saturday.

The program, organized by the Drug Administration Administration, is intended to give people a safe and convenient way to get rid of unneeded medications.

"In many cases, prescription drugs remain in home medicine cabinets long after therapy has been completed, thus making these drugs easily accessible to others who would misuse or abuse them," said KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer.

According to KSP, they have participated in two previous "Take Back" days collecting over 700 pounds of prescription medication.

GCHS adds another AP scholar to their record number

GCHS adds another AP scholar to their record number

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County High School senior Miranda Oldham has earned the title of Advance Placement Scholar for scoring 3 or higher on at least three AP exams.

A score of 3 qualifies students for college credit at most colleges and universities. Her achievement was omitted from an earlier news release, because of a clerical error.

She brings the number of GCHS students who earned the designation of AP Scholar to 13. Even at 12 honorees, the 2010-11 school year produced the largest number of AP Scholars in school history.

Subsequently, the Graves County School District was designated as a member of the College Board’s Second Annual AP® District Honor Roll for significant gains in Advanced Placement® access and student performance.

Only 367 districts were so honored nationwide this year.

KY 80 is now open after a log truck overturned, scattering a load of logs across the road Tuesday.  Both lanes were closed for six hours.

David Douglas Jr. 46, of Barlow fell asleep at the wheel, crossed into the median and overturned, according to the Graves County Sheriff's Office.

The crash was on the westbound side of KY 80.

Douglas Jr. was trapped in the truck for three hours.  He treated and released with minor injuries.

After the log truck crashed, James Vasquez, 32, of Mayfield was driving eastbound, didn't see the logs and hit them.  He fled the scene because he had a suspended operator's license and did not help the driver of the semi, according to the Graves County Sheriff's Office.  A passerby noticed the crashes and reported them.
