GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Events for the Graves County School District on Thursday, September 22 are available.

Events include:

  • Fancy Farm - Grandparents' Breakfast
  • Fancy Farm - Wickliffe Mounds Field Trip, 5th grade
  • Sedalia - 6th grade Challenge Center visit
  • Wingo - Club day at 12:30 p.m.
  • Farmington - Tutoring from 2:36 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Symsonia - STLP from 2:36 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Central - Cheerleading practice from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • GCHS - JV and Varsity volleyball hosts Hickman County
  • GCHS - Cross country participants in the Trigg County Rotary Fenton Dawson Memorial at Lake Barkley

Cuba Elementary 6th graders win attendance trophy

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -  Ms. Nikki Simpkins' sixth grade class is shown with the attendance trophy for the month of August.

Their class recorded over 99 percent average attendance for the first month of the new school year. Cuba Elementary stresses the importance of student attendance each day.

Graves Co., other Ky. school dist. to test new system

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Department of Education says this school year, 54 Kentucky school districts will participate in a field test of the proposed Teacher and Principal Professional Growth and Effectiveness System.

The department says in the 2010-2011 school year, 23 districts began work on development of the system. In the 2011-2012 school year, more districts will join them in the field-testing phase.

According to the department, the goal of the Professional Growth and Effectiveness System is to have every student taught by an effective teacher and every school led by an effective principal.

Early Head Start Home-Based Program serves Graves County

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County Home-Based Early Head Start is a child development program in which home visitors, who have early childhood education backgrounds, work with infants and toddlers  and their families in the home once a week for 90 minutes.

It is an opportunity to enhance children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and also enables parents to improve their own skills in being a better caregiver and teacher to their children.

Graves County Early Head Start operates both home-based and center-based programs, serving 17 children and their families through Murray Head Start.

Lady Eagles win softball tournament

Lady Eagles win softball tournament

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Graves County Middle School softball team won the Lone Oak Middle School Tournament the weekend of Sept. 16. The Lady Eagles posted a 4-1 record for the tournament. 

In pool play Friday night, Graves County lost its first game to Reidland 2-0, and then defeated Lone Oak 8-0 in the second pool game. Lone Oak then went on to beat Reidland in the final pool game, which allowed Graves to earn the pool’s No. 1 seed.
