GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky school officials have declared Thursday, September 15 as High Attendance Day in Kentucky schools.

On High Attendance Day, elementary, middle or high schools may compete in small school or large school categories. Awards will be determined statewide based on each individual school's performance, regardless of the district's performance. The school in each category with the highest percentage attendance for that day will be awarded $500.

"For students to learn and achieve at a high level, they have to be in class," said Fred Ashby, Director of Pupil Personnel for Calloway County Schools. "That's why we have chosen to designate Thursday as High Attendance Day in Kentucky schools."

According to Ashby, regular attendance is essential for success in school. By attending class regularly, a student is more likely to keep up with the daily lessons and assignments, and achieve academic performance benchmarks on time.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Events for Tuesday in the Graves County School District include the following:

• Fancy Farm - Derby Museum program 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
• Fancy Farm - Red Cross blood drive 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in gym
• Central - Red Cross blood drive 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Farmington - Tutoring 2:36 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• GCHS - Boys' and girls' golf hosts Murray and Reidland
• Symsonia - Running Club 2:36 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
• Middle School - SBDM meeting at 3 p.m.
• Fancy Farm - SBDM meeting 4 p.m. in library
• Middle School - Softball visits Calloway County at 5 p.m.
• Middle School - Football hosts Murray at 5:30 p.m.
• GCHS - JV and Varsity girls' soccer visits Heath at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
• Fancy Farm - Girl Scouts 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
