Cuba Elementary students greeted each day with "good morning"

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Cuba Elementary's "Mr. Philip" greets each student and guest with a smile and "good morning" as they enter the front door of the school.

Principal Jill McClain says a familiar face and smile is such a positive way to start the day.

Mr. Philip is the head custodian at Cuba Elementary.

Rachel's Legacy assembly at GCHS

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Cuba Elementary sixth graders recently attended the Rachel's Legacy assembly at Graves County High School.

After the assembly, several students attended a training by Darrel Scott, Rachel Scott's father, that included suggestions for spreading kindness throughout our schools and community. The students returned to their school and shared with the entire student body about the importance of exhibiting kindness and compassion.

Two charged after toddler found walking down road

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Graves County Sheriff's Department  reports a mother and her boyfriend have been charged Wednesday after a toddler was found walking down KY 849.

Megan E. Lee, 22, and James W. Kinnis, 25, were arrested and charged with first degree wanton endangerment.

According to Sheriff Dwayne Redmon, deputies responded to a call about a child walking down KY 849 Wednesday at 10:56 a.m. The deputies started going door-to-door looking for the family of the two-and-a-half-year-old.

The sheriff says Lee and Kinnis were found sleeping in their home less than a mile away from where the little boy was found. He says the toddler is custody of foster care.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Each month staff and faculty at Cuba Elementary recognize students who have shown acts of kindness and compassion in the classroom and throughout the school.

Paving on KY 994/Old Mayfield Rd. starts Tuesday

GRAVES AND MCCRACKEN COUNTIES, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says a contractor plans to start work along KY 994/Old Mayfield Road in McCracken and Graves Counties on Tuesday.

In Graves County, the project will be from KY 849 at mile point 0.0 in Graves County. It runs northward to the Graves-McCracken County line, a distance of 4.328 miles.

In McCracken County, the project runs from the Graves-McCracken County line at mile point 0.0 northward to the railroad crossing at mile point 2.122.

The KYTC says crews may be working at multiple locations along this route.
