GCHS students accepted to summer 2013 Ky. Governor’s School for Arts program

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County High School students, from left, Hunter Moffitt and Gregory Willett have been accepted to the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts this summer.

Moffitt plays trombone in various bands at his school. Willett is interested in the creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, and engineering of architecture as a potential career aspiration. GSA will give both students the chance to explore their creative interests at Transylvania University in Lexington.

Graves High prom, 'Under the Sea,' scheduled for May 4

Graves High prom, 'Under the Sea,' scheduled for May 4

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County High School’s prom, Under the Sea, will be held Saturday, May 4, in the Eagles’ Nest Gymnasium.

It features a beach and underwater theme this year.

Prom permission forms must be submitted to teacher Jennifer Hunter in Room B05 in order to purchase prom tickets. If a form is not submitted, a ticket cannot be purchased.  

Tickets will be sold through Friday, May 3. Prices are $25 for a single ticket or $30 for a couple.

The Grand March will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Prom will end at 11:30 p.m.  

Jones Photography will take pictures at prom and packages will be sold. Orders can be made at prom and payment is expected at the time of order.

Lowes Elementary celebrates ‘Distinguished’ designation by displaying KDE banner

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Lowes Elementary School earned the Kentucky Department of Education’s designation of a “Distinguished” school, ranking among the top 10 percent of the Commonwealth’s 734 elementary schools on Kentucky’s first-ever Unbridled Learning assessment.

Recently, principal Cheryl Goodman and guidance counselor Shea Brown posed with students who earned the individual “Distinguished” designation last year as fifth graders.

To mark the achievement, the school recently placed a Kentucky Department of Education banner next to the front door to tell all who walk through the door that Lowes is a school ranking among the highest-performing and most college and career-ready elementary schools in the Commonwealth.

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - During the month of April the Graves County Sheriff's Office had the following activity on the "When Will It Click?" grant.

Saturation Patrol: 64 Hours

School Activities/Programs: 24 Hours

Traffic Enforcement Zone: 22 Hours

Speed Equipment Operator: 4 Hours

Saturation Patrol roadways in April included US 45 South, US 45 North, KY 131, KY 121 By Pass and KY 80 East.

Traffic Enforcement Zone roadways in April included KY 94 at KY 97 and US 45 North at KY 408.

There were a total of 194 citations or written warnings issued in April. Those included:
