Mayfield prepares for 'Let's Paint the Town' Phase 2

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Mayor Teresa Cantrell is inviting everyone in Mayfield to a meeting to plan for the Phase 2 of "Let's Paint the Town."

The meeting will be at City Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.

"Everyone is invited to the meeting," said Cantrell, "whether you want to volunteer individually, or if you have a group from your workplace that's interested in just taking on a building, or if you have special skills you would like to donate. It's just a way to make us look better - and that's always a boost to economic development."

Plans are to start with the Outfitters connection building on the west side and then move to the south side of the square that is bounded by Wells Studio on the east side and David Norsworthy's building on the west side.

Last year's project was a success and Cantrell gives much of the credit to the Laurel Oak Garden Club, who planted and maintained most of the areas downtown.

Funds for the project come from sponsorships from FNB and US Bank, as well as a kickoff cookout by Atmos Energy. Additional funds have come through proceeds of sales of prints of downtown Mayfield donated by local artist, Ken Crawford.

The kickoff for the project, overseen by volunteer Gloria Galloway, is planned for Saturday, Sept. 8 at 7 a.m. and continuing through Saturday, Sept. 22.

Anyone interested in volunteering but unable to make the meeting can call the Mayor's office at 251-6251 or Galloway at 214-762-1073.
