Graves Co. Cheerleaders' National Championship to air on ESPNU

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Graves County Co-ed Cheerleaders' performance will be shown on ESPNU Sunday, March 27.

The featured performance is the cheerleaders at the latest Universal Cheerleading Association's national championship. It will air at 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to Coach Jon Summerville, a repeat will air the second weekend in April.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Art students at Cuba Elementary School are studying the color wheel and learning the primary and secondary colors.

The students were able to color their own version of the color wheel in class.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Second graders in JoAnna Taylor's class celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday with "Wacky Wednesday."

The class read Seuss's books throughout the day and got to wear "wacky" clothes to school.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Second graders at Cuba Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday with reading and food.

The students read the popular book "Green Eggs and Ham," then made their own green eggs and ham.

Family Writing Night held at Cuba Elementary

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Students at Cuba Elementary showed off their pieces of writing recently at Family Writing Night.

Over 125 students, parents and family members came to the event. Students could read their story aloud while it was displayed on a screen.

Clifford the Big Red Dog was also there to promote the school's book fair.

First grade students at Cuba Elementary celebrate Read Across America week

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Students in Reba Wiggins' first grade class at Cuba Elementary celebrated Read Across America week recently.

Volunteers including Graves County Superintendent Kenneth Galloway visited the class to read their favorite Dr. Seuss book.

Six Cuba Elementary students featured at Graves Co. 4-H Communications Day

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Six second graders from Cuba Elementary were featured recently at the Graves County 4-H Communications Day.

It was hosted by the UK Cooperative Extension Service and students showed off their speech giving skills.

They have been studying the use prosody while reading and have learned the importance of reading with expression, smoothness, appropriate volume, phrasing and pace.

Since they are not old enough to be enrolled in 4-H, they are called Cloverbuds. Graves County 4-H Youth Development Agent Tracey Tashijan has been helping them use prosody when giving a speech.
