Graves High students work 3rd annual Community Service Day

All of the high school’s nearly 1,400 students as well as teachers and staff members provided community service on the same day.

The 2012 event marked the third consecutive year for the project, designed to give back to the community. Other students contributed through means ranging from car washes and bake sales for charities to clearing brush and landscaping at churches and homes of senior citizens. Civic groups, non-profit organizations, local government, churches, and even private individuals worked with the students to positively impact the community.

One beneficiary of the work, Connie McManus, posted on Facebook:

“We can't begin to thank Graves County High School students, faculty, and administration for working at my Dad's house today. This group of students led by their teacher, Kelvin Howard, gave Dad's yard a landscaping uplift like I've never seen. Thanks to [Superintendent Pete] Galloway, [principal R.B.] Mays, [event coordinator teacher Michelle] McKee, and all others involved for supporting this community service project day. Our future is in good hands with this group of young people!!!”
