KSP releases activity report | Crime

KENTUCKY (KFVS) - Kentucky State Police post 2 has released an activity report for July.
The following activity was reported:
- Arrested 29 impaired drivers
- Issued a total of 2,651 citations
- Issued 1,095 speeding citations
- Issued 298 seat belt citations
- Issued 16 child restraint citations
- Issued 720 courtesy notices
- Investigated 68 traffic crashes
- Assisted 238 stranded motorists
- Responded to 987 calls for service
- Opened 80 criminal cases
- Made 237 criminal arrests
According to KSP, there were three deadly crashes in the report resulting in the loss of three lives. One death occured in Crittenden County and two occured in Hopkins County. Two victims were not wearing seatbelts and one was a pedestrian.
Through July 31, 2012, KSP says there have been 17 deadly crashes resulting in the loss of 17 lives. Ten victims were not wearing seatbelts, four were wearing seatbelts, one was not wearing a helmet, one was wearing a helmet, and one was a pedestrian.
In the same time period last year, only 12 deadly crashes were reported.
Drivers can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivesr to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers can remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the district. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations.
