If you haven't already seen it, be sure to look at the skies after dark to see a picture it is providing at this time.

You will find a  nice bright crescent moon. On Sunday, to the left  of the moon is the planet Jupiter, and to the bottom of the moon is the planet Venus which is a little brighter than the planet Jupiter. You don't want to miss it.

Weatherization assistance available for some households

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - West Kentucky Allied Services, Inc is currently providing Weatherization Assistance to eligible homes in the Purchase area.

This assistance will make energy more affordable for low-income families through energy-saving advanced technologies. The hope is that this will save lives and keep families safer by identifying carbon monoxide hazards, poor indoor air quality, molds and other health threats.

Eligible households will receive a free dwelling needs evaluation which may result in work being done to provide energy-saving and safety measures.

The application process can be completed at each local WKAS office.

The Graves County office is located at 222 West Water Street, P.O. Box 736, Mayfield, Ky. 42066.

Roadwork to begin on KY 303-Cuba Road

Roadwork to begin on KY 303-Cuba Road

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans milling and paving work on KY 303/Cuba Road in Graves County starting Tuesday, July 5, 2011.

The project includes KY 303/Cuba Road at the South edge of Mayfield from Wyatt Drive at mile point 16.388 extending northward to mile point 16.853 at  KY 121/Paris Road, a distance of 0.265 miles.  Milling and an asphalt base coating should be completed on Tuesday.  The base coat will be allowed to cure for a couple of days.  A finish coat of asphalt will be applied on Friday, July 8th, weather permitting.

Motorists who regularly travel this section of Ky 303/Cuba Road at the South edge of Mayfield should be alert for equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel on the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.  Appropriate caution is required.

Sedalia Elementary students pick environmental proj. for next year

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Sedalia Elementary fourth grade environment team has been chosen for next year and will be doing their environmental project with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Fourth graders in Keri Dowdy's class won the Kentucky competition and placed third nationally this past spring in the Disney Planet Challenge with their composting project.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Fourth graders in Keri Dowdy's Sedalia Elementary class have won the Kentucky competition and now the placed third nationally in the Disney Plant Challenge.

The contest is designed as an opportunity for students to improve and learn about the environment.

Last year the students grew ingredients to make their own pizza and helped reduce cafeteria waste. This year, students followed up on that effort by composting and teaching others how to compost.

The students call themselves "The Rot Squad" and tell others to "Do the Rot Thing" about the environment.
