Murray State University to host high school fishing open

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) - Murray State University will host the Murray State High School Fishing Open on April 10.

Student anglers from every state are invited but only the highest-ranking team from Kentucky will be crowned the Kentucky High School Fishing State Champions.

Each two-person team from grades nine through 12 will fish with a "coach" who provides the boat they fish in. Each team is allowed to weigh in five bass. The team with the heaviest overall catch will earn a $10,000 scholarship to Murray State University. The second place team earns $1,000 and the third place team earns $500.

The highest ranking team from Kentucky will advance to an FLW Outdoors/TBF High School Fishing Regional Championship.

School composting project

SEDALIA, KY (KFVS) - Students at Sedalia Elementary are joining in on the Environmental Team Composting Project.

Sedalia is competing in the 2010-2011 Disney's Planet Challenge.

DPC is a project-based learning competition that focuses on the environment. Classrooms across the U.S. are competing and learning about science and conservation while helping make a positive empact on their communities and planet.

Barn is blown over highway by strong winds

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - High winds blew a large tobacco barn over U.S. Highway 564.

The road, east of Sedalia and southeast of Mayfield, was closed until clean up crews were able to push the barn to the side. The road is now open.
