Graves Cheerleaders win 7th state crown in 9 years at 1st KHSAA-sponsored championship | Events
GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Graves County High School Co-Ed Competition Cheerleaders won their seventh state championship at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green Saturday evening, February 23.
The squad competes in the Large Co-Ed Division and won state titles previously in 2005-2008, 2010, and 2012.
Through last year, the sponsoring organization was the Kentucky Association of Pep Organization Sponsors. Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association has sanctioned cheerleading as an athletic activity and now sponsors the championship.
Graves County won its sixth national championship in eight years at the Universal Cheerleading Association's finals Saturday, Feb. 9, in Orlando, Fla.
The team also won UCA nationals in 2006-07 and 2009-11. Graves County was runner-up in 2008 and 2012. Coach Jon Summerville has led the team throughout those years.
