MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The next Family Movie Night will be Friday, July 15 and "Hairspray" will be featured.

Every Friday night in June and July the city of Mayfield and NewWave Communications will present a free outdoor movie night for the whole family.

The movies will play in Harmon Park at the corner of North 8th and James Streets at 8 p.m.

The city recommends you bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions will be provided and restrooms will be available.

Weatherization assistance available for some households

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - West Kentucky Allied Services, Inc is currently providing Weatherization Assistance to eligible homes in the Purchase area.

This assistance will make energy more affordable for low-income families through energy-saving advanced technologies. The hope is that this will save lives and keep families safer by identifying carbon monoxide hazards, poor indoor air quality, molds and other health threats.

Eligible households will receive a free dwelling needs evaluation which may result in work being done to provide energy-saving and safety measures.

The application process can be completed at each local WKAS office.

The Graves County office is located at 222 West Water Street, P.O. Box 736, Mayfield, Ky. 42066.

HeartSafe community program launches

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Department for Public Health's Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program will be working with communities to improve chances of survival for stroke and heart attack victims.

DPH, the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services and the American Heart Association will launch the HeartSafe Community Program.

“By taking action, you can help save a life in your community,” said Dr. William Hacker, DPH commissioner.  “We are working directly with Kentucky communities to increase access to care, public awareness and the prevention of heart disease."

To become a part of the HeartSafe Community, applicants must review criteria for the program, complete an application and mail or fax the application to DPH.

YMCA to expand after school program

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Mayfield Graves County YMCA announced Tuesday they will be expanding their Y's Guys After School Program.

The program will now be offered at Carr Elementary in Fulton City, Hickman Elementary in Clinton, Ky. and St.

"Just Us Girls" program at GCMS

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Family Resource and Youth Service Centers will host their "Just Us Girls" program on Tuesday, June 21.

The program will be at the Graves County Middle School from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Kentucky to change vaccine schedule

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Regulations governing Kentucky's immunizations schedule for infants, toddlers and school-age children have been changed, the Kentucky Department for Public Health announced Wednesday.

The regulations were amended, adding and altering the types of certain vaccines required and changing the vaccination schedule for others.

Immunization requirements were updated to better align Kentucky's schedule with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The new version of regulations put the Commonwealth in line with national pediatric standards.

"Improving the health of Kentucky, particularly our children, is a top priority of our administration," said Governor Steve Beshear. "The vaccine program for years has served as the cornerstone of public health, shielding individuals from illness, and also preventing the spread of dangerous communicable disease to the broader population.

Graves Co. Relay for Life raises over $125,000

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Mayfield Graves County Relay for Life event raised $125,562.09 for cancer research.

The event on June 10 was at the Graves County High School football field.

Chairman Tami Widelski told team captains she was speechless and in awe of what was shared Friday night for the community.
