Registration for Mayfield-Graves Co. YMCA Summer Camp

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Mayfield-Graves County YMCA will host a summer camp for kids.

The summer camp will include five field trips, swimming three days a week with trips to Kess Creek Park and weekly themes and lessons.

The field trips will include:

  • Land Between the Lake/Planetarium
  • Movies at Princess Theaters
  • Roller skating
  • Whitehaven
  • Mike Miller Park
  • Mayfield Police Department

Breakfast, lunch and a snack will be provided the camp at no additional charge. The YMCA also offers financial assistance to those in need so every child and teen has the chance to go to camp.

11 more Ky. counties eligible for Public Assistance

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Eleven more counties have been added to the federal disaster declaration, making them eligible for federal Public Assistance funds.

The added counties include: Butler, Caldwell, Calloway, Edmonson, Elliott, Graves, Logan, Lyon, Monroe, Todd and Trigg. The funds will go to removing debris and helping to rebuild infrastructure and other public facilities damaged during severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.

Fulton and Union counties are now eligible for assistance with emergency work and repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.

Ky. residents suffering storm, flood damage can register for Federal disaster assistance

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Kentucky residents in eleven counties that suffered damage from severe storms, tornadoes and flooding on April 22 or later can now apply for federal and Commonwealth disaster assistance.

Federal assistance is available to those living in Boyd, Crittenden, Graves, Hardin, Hickman, Jefferson, Marshall, McCracken, Livingston, Union and Webster counties.

Residents can apply by phone toll-free at 800-621-FEMA or TTY 800-462-7585 for those with speech or hearing impairments. The toll-free number are available seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice. You can also register online or via smartphone at m.fema.gov.

"I am grateful that the federal government has recognized the need for this assistance," said Governor Beshear.

Zumba class for Relay for Life at GCES

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - A zumba class at Graves Central Elementary School will benefit the Relay for Life.

Meagan Ralph will lead the class in the school gym from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 14.

A $10 donation at the door will go to the Graves County Relay for Life. Prizes will be given throughout the morning and doors will open at 8 a.m.

The Graves County Board of Education Central Office Team is sponsoring the event.

"Toddler Time" at Sedalia Elementary

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Sedalia Elementary School hosted "Toddler Time" recently where kids got to make bunny glasses.

Family Resource Center Director Andrea Puckett began "Toddler Time" last school year at Sedalia and Cuba and the event spread to other schools this year.

The idea of "Toddler Time" is to help young children become familiar with school before they actually attend. They get to see what's to come: learning, new friendships and fun.

Final registration for pre-school, head start

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - Final days for Graves County pre-school and head start 2011-2012 school year will be May 9-10.

Registration will be at Central Elementary in the Head Start office. You can call the office to schedule your registration appointment at 674-4905 or 328-4905.

Children have to be either three or four years old before October 1, 2011 to attend pre-school. Your child does not need to be with you for your appointment.

You must bring proof of income to register, or you can sign a statement that you know you are over-income and do not wish to be considered for income eligibility.

Youth services centers hosted Easter egg hunt for special needs kids

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Easter Bunny visitedwith about 50 special needs kids recently at Mayfield's Kess Park.

The Easter Bunny gave out more than 1,000 eggs during the event sponsored by the Mayfield and Graves County School Family Resource Centers.

Wingo Elementary FRC Director Tana Jones said she and her colleagues wanted to give the children and a non-competitive event and seeing their smiling faces made it worth the effort.
