PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Concord Elementary received a grant from the Western Baptist Hospital and will use it to launch Project Fit America this fall.
Concord is the fourth school to receive the $16,000 grant from the hospital. It will go toward indoor and outdoor fitness equipment, teacher training and support materials for the physical education curriculum.
The outdoor equipment wil be available for community members to use to get in shape.
Vice President and Chief medical officer of Western Baptist Patrick Winthrow, M.D. said the elementary fitness program provides the perfect vehicle for exercise and nutrition education for children and their families.
"Childhood obesity is on the rise and Kentucky leads the nation in smoking," said Winthrow.
