GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Drivers are asked to use extra care driving around parts of Graves and Calloway counties on July 4th.
Bicyclists will be riding on many of the area’s rural routes as they participate in the Mayfield Kiwanis Club’s BAM! (Bike Around Mayfield) Annual “Fun Ride.” Police will escort the riders east on Broadway to Golo Road. Members of the Patriot Guard motorcycle team will lead the group of bicyclists out of town. From Golo Road, bicyclists will be using various routes including Backusburg, Hammond and Darnell Roads, and then Highways 1124 and 2205. Several riders will also be riding along Sedalia, Cuba, Scott and Pea Ridge Roads toward Water Valley and then back into Mayfield on Central Avenue. There will be several Rest Stops along the routes providing refreshments to the riders; Rest Stops will be marked clearly with warning signs.
Please use special caution around the Rest Stops as the riders will be distracted getting back into their pedal clips and might not be giving their full attention to traffic. Start times from the Icehouse Gallery in downtown Mayfield will be 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
This is the fifth year of the Club’s annual ride. Proceeds are used to maintain Kiwanis Park and to fund the R. Wayne Morgan Scholarship Program and other programs that benefit area youth. Details and route maps are posted on the Club’s website.
