Graves Co. Schools Superintendent Pete Galloway announces retirement

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County Schools Superintendent Pete Galloway announced at his district's board of education meeting Tuesday night, December 18, that he will retire at the end of the 2012-13 school year.

Galloway has served as superintendent of the Graves County Schools since 2008. The district consistently ranked in the top 7.5 percent in Kentucky academics on the Commonwealth Accountability Testing Systems assessment from 2004 through its conclusion in 2011.

The district ranked as “Proficient” under the new Unbridled Learning accountability data announced in early November 2012. That means it ranks among the top 30 percent of districts statewide, along with four of its ten schools: Symsonia, Central, and Sedalia elementary schools, and Graves County High School. Lowes Elementary earned the status of “Distinguished,” ranking among the top ten percent of elementary schools.

Prior to his current position, Galloway was assistant superintendent for eight years, director of pupil personnel for 18 years, and a vocational agriculture teacher at the former Farmington High School for ten years.

He holds Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and 30 hours above the master’s degree in agriculture education. He also earned 30 hours above the master’s degree in school administration and certification as a superintendent. He earned all his degrees at Murray State University.

His peers nominated and elected him to the top offices in the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, including its presidency in 2007-08. He also is a past president of the Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel. Early in his career, he was voted the Outstanding Kentucky Vocational Agriculture Teacher of the Year. He later was named the Kentucky Public Schools’ Health Coordinator of the Year.
