Single car collision kills Mayfield man | News
GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Mayfield man was killed in a single vehicle collision Monday night.
The Graves County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to KY 58 East in the area of the Mayfield/Graves County Airport at approximately 10:10 p.m. Monday, June 17.
When deputies arrived, they discovered that 30-year-old Austin Sanderson was eastbound on KY 58 East when he lost control of the 2008 Chevrolet four door he was driving.
Sanderson lost control due to his speed and the wet road conditions.
He ran off of the right side of the roadway and struck a driveway culvert, causing the vehicle to go airborne.
The vehicle then landed in a yard and rolled several times before coming to rest in a ditch.
Sanderson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected out of the vehicle.
He was found in a wooded area about 20 feet from where the vehicle came to rest.
Sanderson was transported to JPMC ER by Mayfield/Graves County EMS where he was pronounced dead by the Graves County Coroner's Office.
Alcohol is also suspected to be a factor in the collision.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Kentucky State Police and the Mayfield/Graves County Fire and Rescue Squad.
Neighbors in the area of the wreck also assisted with searching the area for Sanderson and assisted by dousing a fire that started in the engine compartment of the car.
