GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Fancy Farm Elementary School principal Janet Throgmorton commemorated the 100th day of the 2012-13 school year with Lucille Jones, a 100-year-old woman living in the Clinton-Hickman ICF Nursing Home.

Together, they showed PowerPoint photos illustrating times in Mrs. Jones’ life.

“[Second grade teacher] Diane Smithson contacted me, looking for someone 100 years old to help her students understand what 100 really is,” said Rollie Buschor, the nursing home administrator. “No one in her class ever knew anyone who was 100 and they were having difficulty finding anyone to fit the bill. Our facility was very fortunate; we were able to comply. Once we discussed it with Mrs. Jones, she was very excited to share her story. So much so, she couldn't sleep the night before and had been going through photos for a week trying to find things she thought would be interesting for the children."

Buschor said Jones was still talking about the trip with great excitement again the next day and couldn't imagine that children would find her life interesting.

"This was a wonderful opportunity to bring young and old together and to help others understand the true value and treasures we have in our elderly," Buschor said.

Joining in the conversation were Jones’ son Charles Davis and daughter Marylou Wilmurth. Buschor and Becky Seaton of the nursing home accompanied them as well. The nursing home contracted PALS, the Purchase Area Limo Service, to drive the party to the school.
