Kentucky 'Click It or Ticket' campaign cites thousands of drivers

(KFVS) - The Click It or Ticket campaign in Kentucky ran from May 21 through June 3 and cited over 19,000 motorists for not buckling up.

According to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, the campaign is supported annually in Kentucky by over 220 state and local law enforcement agencies.

KOHS says the purpose of the campaign is to encourage motorists to abide by the state's seat belt law. There were 642 checkpoints set up for Click It or Ticket, and as a result of those checkpoints, officials made arrests for drunk driving, felony and drug arrests. Other arrests made at the checkpoints related to speeding, reckless driving and recovering stolen vehicles.

Transportation Secretary, Mike Hancock, says that the purpose of the campaign is not to write tickets, but to save the lives of motorists. He also says that the campaign helps to educate motorists on the importance of wearing a seat belt.
