GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Mayfield mayor and city schools are promising more rails and wider steps at War Memorial Stadium.
Through a cooperative agreement between the City of Mayfield and Mayfield Independent Schools, football fans last year enjoyed the safety of wider steps and rails at the stadium, but Mayor Teresa Cantrell said the problem was, that there just weren't enough of them.
Mayfield Public Works crews are working on the stadium once again to widen two more areas of steps on the "home" side of the stadium for football fans to enjoy this fall. City School Superintendent Lonnie Burgett has agreed to pay for the railing once the public works crews finish the concrete work.
"This was a long-time needed project, and we are happy to work with the schools to do what we can on that property, to make it more safe for our residents," Cantrell said. "The stadium was the focus of several upgrades and facade improvements last year by the city, and school officials hope to have the seats re-numbered and cleaned up before this year's football season."
