Mid-Continent to serve at Battle of the Birds, host exhibition game with UK Alums

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - The Mid-Continent University athletic department is stepping forward to partner up with Graves County High School at this year’s Battle of the Birds.

The event will see the Eagles and the Mayfield High School Cardinals renew hostilities on the gridiron, but there will be a strong presence from the athletic department at MCU. The Mid-Continent Campus sits just three miles from Graves County High School, and the Cougars will have varsity athletes from all six of their sports serving at the game in various roles. Mid-Continent athletes will be in their game jerseys at the event on Sept. 14 as they help in various capacities at the game.

Two weeks later, the Cougars and head men’s Basketball Coach Winston Bennett will again take on a group of University of Kentucky Alumni. The UK alumni squad will feature players such as Antoine Walker (1995-96), Derek Anderson (1995-97), Ravi Moss (2003-06), Brandon Stockton (2003-06), Wayne Turner (1995-99), Josh Carrier (2002-05), and Bobby Perry (2004-07) with Jack Givens and James Lee serving as honorary coaches for the UK alums in the game. Gates will open to the general public at 6:30, and the game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Ticket will go on Sale for the game on Sept. 8, with all seating reserved and priority for Graves County Season Ticket Holders until Sept. 14.

Bleacher tickets will be $10, with Chair-back seats selling for $15. Corporate sponsorship packages are also available, with several special perks, including a meet and greet session with the former UK Players beginning at 5:30 p.m. For Information on becoming a corporate sponsor, contact Shawn Yarbrough – Mid-Continent head baseball coach – at 270-366-1404 or syarbrough@midcontinent.edu.
