Sedalia students learn about circuits when lights go out, come back on at school

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - When the lights went out in Sedalia Wednesday, Sept. 26, the light went on for Sedalia fourth graders, who kept on learning.

“Our teachers are so good,” said Principal Robert Braden. “They know their subjects and they know their students. So, when the electric lines went down and the power went out for about three hours Wednesday morning, our fourth grade teachers Keri Dowdy and Leslie Williams recognized a teachable moment when they saw one. They used the opportunity to teach the kids about open and closed circuits."

After going outside and discussing what had happened with the power lines, the students opened up snap circuit kits and they all built open and closed circuits. They had some role models in front of them, as they watched the West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. workers repair the lines.
