Graves High resource teacher shares peer tutoring success at annual conference | Schools

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - Graves County High School resource teacher Miranda Reed was asked to make a presentation at the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children’s 47th Annual Exceptional Children's Conference, "Preparing For Success: Understanding the Plans," at the Galt House in Louisville November 18-20.

Reed spoke about the GCHS peer tutoring program, its developments and improvements over time. She explained how students from the general education classes work with her special education students who have moderate to severe disabilities.

She shared information about the application process, selection, syllabus, curriculum, and expectations for tutors from their earliest involvement. She informed her audience of fellow educators about students learning best from their peers and used research-based evidence that shows peer tutoring increases positive engagement and learning for students.

Her goal was for the audience to leave with an understanding of how they could go back to their individual districts and implement a peer tutoring program or to improve and build on the one they already might have.
