GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS)  - A Mayfield man was killed in a single vehicle collision Monday night.  

The Graves County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to KY 58 East in the area of the Mayfield/Graves County Airport at approximately 10:10 p.m. Monday, June 17.  

When deputies arrived, they discovered that 30-year-old Austin Sanderson was eastbound on KY 58 East when he lost control of the 2008 Chevrolet four door he was driving.

Sanderson lost control due to his speed and the wet road conditions.

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - A teen was injured after deputies say heavy rain contributed to a crash on US 45 about a mile south of Lone Oak.

Around 2:40 p.m. on Monday, June 17 officers were dispatched to US 45 after a red 2002 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by Michael Mix from Mayfield, ran off the road.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Mix lost control of the SUV while southbound on US 45, collided with an earth embankment ditch and overturned several times before coming to a final rest on its wheels.

Mix was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies say localized heavy rain and water collecting on the road were contributing factors. They say the right lane of US 45 was partially blocked for about 30 minutes.

Motorcyclist receives minor injuries after hitting deer on KY 58 East

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A man was injured after hitting a deer with his motorcycle on KY 58 East near Hopewell Road Friday morning.

The Graves County Sheriff's Department responded to the call around 5:40 a.m. Friday, June 14.

According to deputies, Michael Nichols was on his way to work on his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle when a deer walked onto the road and he was unable to avoid hitting it.

Nichols was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Deputies say he was wearing a helmet and other motorcycle safety attire that is credited with the injuries not being more severe.

The Sheriff’s Office was helped on the scene by the Mayfield Police Department and Mayfield/Graves County EMS.

KSP announces upcoming traffic safety checkpoints

(KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Post 1 district, to check drivers for compliance with motor vehicle laws including driving under the influence statutes.

KSP uses traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists using the public roadways and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

They say the intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for a high visibility, public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles and the valid licensing of drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed.

1 injured after rollover crash on KY 464

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A passenger received minor injuries after rollover crash on KY 464, about 1 mile east of Mayfield on Wednesday.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Graves County Sheriff's Department says Cole Fields, 18, was driving westbound on KY 464 when his Pontiac Grand Prix dropped off the right shoulder of the road. Deputies say Fields over-corrected, which caused his vehicle to spin 180 degrees and then run off the right side of the road and down a steep embankment where it rolled over one complete time.

According to deputies, Fields was not injured. His passenger, William Orgeron, received minor injuries to his face and arm. they say he was treated at the scene and refused transport to a hospital.

1 injured, cited for DUI after crash on KY 849

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Lowes man was sent to the hospital with multiple injuries after a single vehicle crash on KY 849 around 11:02 a.m. Monday.

Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon said deputies responded to the area of 705 SR 849 West for a single vehicle crash. He said the investigation revealed that 31-year-old Mitchell Meyer was driving westbound on KY 849 West when the vehicle dropped off the right shoulder of the road and hit some mailboxes.

Deputies say Meyer then over-corrected, crossed both lanes of KY 849 West and ran off of the south shoulder of the road. After his vehicle left the road, they say it rolled over four to five times before coming to rest on the right side in a field.

Kentucky Office of Highway Safety joins NHTSA in promoting motorcycle safety month

FRANKFORT, KY (KFVS) -. (May 2, 2013) – In recognition of May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in reminding drivers and motorcyclists to “share the road” conscientiously and courteously to help prevent motorcycle crashes, which remain one of the most prevalent causes of death and injury on Kentucky roadways.

The campaign will include increased enforcement by local police throughout May to make sure motorcyclists and drivers of all vehicles are obeying state and local laws.
