KYTC: Crews will not be pre-treating roads in advance
(KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says due to rain in the forecast ahead of the snow, highway crews will not be pre-treating in advance of the approaching winter storm.
According to KYTC, rain washes away the benefits of salt brine ahead of a snow event. They say crews will have to spread salt as the storm develops and snow starts to accumulate.
Based on the present forecast, KYTC District 1 Snow and Ice Team is continuing to monitor ongoing weather developments. They say they expect supervisors to start patrolling as snow approaches the area about 7 p.m., Tuesday night. They would anticipate crews to start reporting as needed around 9 p.m. on Tuesday as the snow develops. KYTC says they anticipate crews being fully operational with snow and ice efforts in our westernmost counties by about midnight, Tuesday.
KYTC says highway crews are prepared to operate around the clock as long as necessary to clear roadways during and after the storm.
