KYTC reminds drivers to stay alert to school zones as classes begin

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet would like to remind drivers to use caution in school zones and around school buses taking children to and from school.

KYTC says over the past week they have had crews turn up and check school zone beacons to prepare for the start of school. The technicians are responsible for beacons at 45 schools scattered across Kentucky's 12 western counties.

Every year as students prepare to return to school, highway signal technicians check each school beacon to make sure it is working properly. They say some schools have four or more beacons that have to be turned on and checked for proper operation.

Highway officials are reminding drivers to be aware of school zones and obey reduced speed limits when beacons are flashing at the start and end of each school day.
